You must first understand you have a SIN PROBLEM inherited from Adam. You then must realize you can’t get rid of it by any good works of your own. When you believe and embrace the GOSPEL of GRACE: that Jesus Christ died, shed His blood, was buried, arose and is now living, you become a Born Again Child of God.
